Climate Concert at Capital is up in the air

I chose this article because it follows up with one of my earlier posts and also has to to with environmental controversies. Unfortunately, plans by Al Gore for the Live Earth rock concert at the U.S. capitol are running into some opposition from the Republican party, and he wanted to hold one of the seven concerts on the National Mall in the U.S. capitol but two other groups secured that space for events. The alternative, to use west lawn of the capitol, is on hold in the U.S. Senate, even as the mayor of the mostly Democratic city of Washington D.C. if for having concert take place there.

Republicans continue to make movements to block the show from performing at the capital, such as Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who rejected approving it because he claimed “the Senate had not yet reviewed it,” a very poor reason. Republican Senator James Inhofe’s response is most disturbing however, as spokesman Marc Morano reported:

Senator Inhofe objects to having any events on the Capitol grounds that are either highly partisan or politically controversial — and the proposed Gore concert is both.

But that is not all, Inhofe has even referred to global warming as a “hoax.” It is ignorant people like this in the Senate and high up in corporations that are slowing down are action to help stop global warming and who have been doing it for years as well as confuse and change the minds of the public. If it weren’t for people like this, much greater action would have been taken by now. Hopefully, this Live Earth concert will open millions of minds and change even those who are stricken with this misbelief so a strong stance is finally taken against global warming.
